EU Releases New Draft of ErP and Energy Efficiency Label Regulations for Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps and Comfort Fans
The EU has issued a new draft of ErP and energy efficiency labeling regulations for air-to-air air conditioners, heat pumps and comfort fans, which will replace the existing (EU) No 206/2012 and (EU) No 626/2011 directives in the future. The new draft stipulates that the implementation date of the new ErP and energy efficiency label is January 1, 2022. However, from September 1, 2021, suppliers (local manufacturers and importers) must register product information in the product database and provide new labels to dealers.
Key points of the new draft
Applicable objects: air to air air conditioners and air to air heat pumps with rated power ≤ 12kW and comfort fans with rated power ≤ 125W using mains power for refrigeration and/or heating.
Major changes:
1. The evaluation of energy efficiency grade and minimum energy efficiency requirements of mobile air conditioners has changed from the original EER and COP to the seasonal SEER and SCOP, and the capacity test under partial load conditions has been added.
2. For mobile single duct air conditioners and heat pumps, the influence of indoor heat leakage caused by product characteristics is considered when calculating SEER and SCOP.
3. The rated capacity test condition of mobile single duct air conditioner changes, and the indoor dry/wet bulb temperature changes from 35oC/24oC to 27oC/19oC.
4. The following functional requirements are added to the mobile air conditioner:
(1) Mobile air-to-air heat pumps shall include an auxiliary heater with maximum auxiliary heater capacity
(elbu_max) ≥ elbu (Tdesignh); (2) The mobile single duct heat pump shall include an outdoor temperature sensor, which can control the heat pump and auxiliary heater according to the outdoor temperature.
5. The energy efficiency grade and minimum energy efficiency requirements are determined based on “seasonal space cooling energy efficiency” and “seasonal space heating energy efficiency”: (1) η s. C “Seasonal space cooling energy efficiency”, expressed as a percentage (%) calculated by SEER; (2) η s. H “Seasonal space heating energy efficiency”, expressed as a percentage (%) calculated by SCOP.
Among them,
η s,c (%) = SEER / 2.1 x 100 – 3
η s,h (%) = SCOP / 2.1 x 100 – 3
The power consumption limit of mobile single duct, double duct air conditioners and comfort fans to be turned off will not be assessed separately.
6. Add the minimum energy efficiency (SV) requirements and noise limit requirements for comfort fans.
7. The classification of energy efficiency label becomes A-G.
8. Add requirements for comfort fan energy efficiency label.
- Implement noise energy efficiency rating A-D.
